The Centre for Comparative Corporate Finance Law (C³FL) pursues the goal of researching, further developing and communicating the legal foundations and economic framework conditions of corporate finance. C³FL consciously builds on the interdisciplinary tradition of the Faculty of Law at the University of Vienna and closes a substantive and institutional gap in business law research with this focus on interdisciplinary research into corporate finance between law, economics and legal practice.
The law of corporate finance is particularly influenced by Anglo-American contract practice. At the same time, it offers multiple choices of law, so-called arbitrage potentials. The methodological focus of the Center therefore lies in the comparative analysis of the law of corporate finance. This is supplemented by comparative economic analyses and conflict of laws methods. The aim is to systematize and canonize the existing advisory and contractual practice in order to distil transparent best practices. From a regulatory perspective, this will prepare the intellectual ground for a European capital markets union.
The Centre's field of activity focuses on three main areas:
(1) research and capacity building,
(2) teaching and training and
(3) support for counseling practice.
To this end, it maintains international exchange through visiting professorships, specialist conferences and publications. Through its unique content and methodological orientation, an international cooperation network, specialized promotion of young talent, the bundling of internal university expertise and cooperation with partners from the legal advisory professions, C³FL contributes to the improvement and further development of corporate finance for the common good.
